“The Life and Times of Purita Kalaw Ledesma” Bags Best Book on Art in the 37th National Book Awards

Congratulations to Prof. Purissima Benitez-Johannot, editor of the book “The Life and Times of Purita Kalaw Ledesma,” and Prof. Patrick Flores and Prof. Eileen Legaspi-Ramirez, who wrote articles for the book. The book was recently named Best Book on Art at the National Book Development Board’s 37th National Book Awards.

Prof. Benitez-Johannot is Lecturer at the Department of Art Studies. Prof. Flores and Prof. Legaspi-Ramirez are Professor and Assistant Professors in the department, respectively.

Professors Emeritae Talks Held in Celebration of Department’s 60th Year

The Department of Art Studies has launched its 60th year with lectures from our professors emeritae. The lectures historically locate the work of our mentors within the discipline of Art Studies to identify emerging directions in our scholarship and advocacies. The lectures were as follows:

  • Professor Emerita Brenda Fajardo, PhD: “Why I Teach”
  • Professor Emerita Elena Mirano, PhD: “Art and Spirit”
  • Professor Emerita Norma Respicio, PhD: “Evaluating Philippine Traditional Arts”

“From Humanities to Art Studies” consolidates institutional memory through discussions on research and trajectories of practice alongside reflections from mentors and colleagues.
