The Remitly Scholars provides direct monthly financial assistance of USD$80 per month over the course of 5 months to qualified students to enable them to pursue their educational and professional dreams.

ELIGIBILITY
The Remitly Scholars Program is open to any resident of Philippines who will be enrolled at a participating institution of higher education and who meets the following scholarship eligibility criteria:
– Full-time student enrolled at a participating institution
– Participating institutions are currently limited to: Mapua Institute of Technology and University of the Philippines (College of Education, College of Engineering, and College of Arts and Letters)
– GPA of at least B (or equivalent) in the previous school year
– No individual grades below C+ (or equivalent)
– Submission of completed scholarship application
– Agreement to the scholarship Terms and Conditions 
– Agreement to receive scholarship payment directly 
– Intent to complete higher education program on time

The University of the Philippines Department of Art Studies in partnership with the Kalaw-Ledesma Foundation, Inc. is pleased to present ???????? ??? ???: ????? ??? ?????? ?? ?? ??? ??????????. It is a series of recordings by UP Diliman faculty who discuss a work of art from the collection of art patron and UP alumna Purita Kalaw-Ledesma (1914-2005). Gathering viewers from different sensibilities and expertise, the program hopes to encourage slow looking, or a prolonged encounter with the work, as well as to exemplify the broad possibilities of viewing art through interdisciplinal lenses.

???????? ??? ??? is titled after a chapter in Purita Kalaw-Ledesma and Amadis Ma. Guerrero’s book ??? ???????? ??? ?????????? ??? (1974). It annotates the public outreach efforts of the Art Association of the Philippines, an organization of artists founded by Kalaw-Ledesma in 1948. The title resounds at present, where remote teaching and learning continue to be observed. Educators have emphasized the importance of “bridging the gap,” or compensating for the challenges posed by distance education in the time of a pandemic. Offering voices and views, the program is an attempt to ease transactional distance by establishing presence and connectivity, in the midst of our virtual encounters with art and others.

???????? ??? ???: ????? ??? ?????? ?? ?? ??? ?????????? can be accessed through the official YouTube and Facebook accounts of the Department of Art Studies and KLFI. There will be 10 episodes presented from 18 January to 28 February 2021 on the works of artists Nena Saguil, Julie Lluch, Ofelia Gelvezon-Tequi, and Napoleon Abueva. The speakers are Patrick Flores, Flaudette May Datuin, Charla Rochella Saamong, Mark Louie Lugue, Ma. Rita Gudino, Maricor Soriano, Eufracio Abaya, Tessa Maria Guazon, Angela Baguilat, and Norma Respicio. Find them posted in the Learning section of the website.

vMeme Contemporary Art Gallery invites everyone to Uneasy Peace, an online solo show by Eloisa May P. Hernandez, who marks her return to exhibition after a number of years. Consisting of 40 photographs of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus, where Hernandez lives and works, Uneasy Peace navigates the tension occasioned by the enduring silence and emptiness of familiar spaces—streets, school buildings, sites of public art—where people, prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, once gathered as a matter of course and long to gather in again.

The show runs from 18 December 2020 to 24 January 2021, and may be accessed via the vMeme website (http://www.vmemecontemporary.com). 

Certain photographs in the exhibition are to be reproduced in calendars and other merchandise. The proceeds from the sale of such merchandise will be donated to Art Mobile Relief Kitchen, a volunteer group of artists and cultural workers that endeavors to feed the hungry in times of distress. 

Hernandez is Professor at the Department of Art Studies, College of Arts and Letters, UP Diliman, where she teaches courses in art history, film studies, popular culture, and gender issues.
